Ozone and Pet Odors

Ozone can effectively destroy odors that originate from animals; creating a comfortable, refreshing living environment that is suitable for all visitors.

Identifying the Odor

Is the aroma of your pets "normal" or accepted by yourself and the way you live, but bothersome to others? If you are dealing with one of many odors from your loving pets or from a previous home owner's pet, ozone is the way to go. Ozone can destroy those odors and create a more comfortable living environment that is suitable for all visitors.

  • Does the odor make you tear up? If yes, more than likely it's urine.
  • Is the odor a strong stale odor? If yes, more than likely it's on the lines of feces or vomit.
  • Does the odor smell like death? If yes, more than likely your pet brought in something dead.

Follow these steps for optimal results:

  1. Identify the source of the odor
  2. Remove the harboring odor if possible (If the floor underneath is original wood floor, the floor should be sanded and coated with polyurethane, applied as a thick coating layer)

After eliminating the odor:

  1. Locate where the odor is the strongest
  2. If carpet, pull it back carefully to check if the backing, pad and underlayment flooring is stained. If so, cut it out and patch in a new underlayment of the same thickness (that may harbor some odor)
  3. Remove the damaged carpet pad area by cutting away the stained pad a couple inches wider than the actual stain
  4. Replace the pad with the same thickness and density as possible, preventing a raised area of the carpet which could be a future safety hazard
  5. The stained and odor areas need to cleaned, deodorized and sanitized with special attention prior to the process of deep cleaning the entire carpeting
  6. If the odor has penetrated into the paint, wall paper, wood and all porous parts of the dwelling or removable contents, the area should be shocked with a high level of ozone
